The Oxford English Dictionary’s Word of the Year for 2016 was “post-truth,” defined as a situation in which objective facts are less influential than appeals to emotion and personal belief. This book is designed to help teachers and librarians understand the concept of “fake news” so that they can educate students to be aware and savvy consumers of news and information. It includes a succinct discussion of how fake news is created and disseminated. The most useful part of the book is a guide to resources for evaluating information as well as a list of fact-checking websites. Although designed for teachers, the book would be helpful to anyone struggling to untangle the information that bombards us every day. Available at the Prescott Campus Library.
