The gallery, located on the library side of the Performing Arts building, has been in operation since 1992. It falls under the auspices of the Art Department and Craig Ralston, who is our new Dean of Arts and Humanities. Steve Mason, the current Chair of the Art Department, is the Gallery Director, and he presides over an Art Gallery Board which is made up of full-time art faculty. This board is responsible for various decisions on the gallery calendar of shows each year.

Megan Dean, our current Gallery Manager, oversees the gallery on a daily basis, assisted by a staff of YC students, Art faculty adjuncts, and volunteer art enthusiasts, who sit the gallery during its open hours, which are: Monday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday: 10 AM – 3 PM; and Tuesday & Wednesday: 10 AM – 7 PM. When possible on a Sunday during music concerts, the gallery will open during the event. Megan told me that the gallery has as its mission to be an educational venue for students, local and national artists, and community members. They are open for the Prescott 4th Friday Night Art Walks, and when possible during community events in the Performing Arts Center facility. The student shows are juried electronically, a relatively new procedure to many students, but they are adapting.

Each semester the gallery presents one student show, one faculty show, and solo and group shows by local and national artists fill in the other months. Exhibits are up for a month, and are advertised through DuckSoup and fliers. Summer shows feature local artists when possible, and a gallery tour can be set up by appointment for times that they are not already open.

The current group show is titled “Transformations – Confronting Ourselves”, and it features photographers Colleen Fitzgerald and Vicki Provost and ceramicist Scott Ziegler. They are all delightful artists who show us in their work how they confront themselves – originally and colorfully. Make time to go by the gallery today!
