In the News this Week: ACE

Library Material on Trending News. Get the Facts!

ACEs stands for “adverse childhood experiences.” Teachers, doctors, researchers, therapists and state legislators met in Nashville to discuss the developing brains of children, and how they react to trauma.

Research on brain development has shown that the more trauma a child endures, the more likely he/she will experience negative health outcomes. Stress changes the way the brain grows.

The Tennessee Department of Education is working closely with therapists and educators to become “trauma-informed.” This involves trainings and additional resources to address childhood trauma. I hope that this initiative spreads to other states as well.
